See Me or Not

See Me or Not
by Tsangyang Gyatso

It does't matter if you see me or not,
I'm right there,
With no emotions.
It doesn't matter if you miss me or not,
The feeling is right there,
And it isn't going anywhere.
It does't matter if you love me or not,
Love is right there,
And it's not going to change.
It does't matter if you are with me or not,
My hand is in your hand,
And I'm not going to let you go.
Let me embrace you, or
Let me live in your heart to eternity,
Love in silence,
Joy with calmness.

Tsangyang Gyatso (1683-1706) was a Tibetan poet, Buddhist monk, and the sixth Dalai Lama. He was not only a religious leader, but also a talented poet. Tsangyang Gyatso's poems are full of romantic sentiments and profound philosophical thinking, integrating Buddhist thought with Tibetan culture. His poems mostly express unique insights into love and life, with fresh language and sincere emotions. His works still enjoy a high reputation in Tibetan culture, especially love poems such as "See Me or Not " are widely circulated.

"See Me or Not " is one of Tsangyang Gyatso's most well-known poems, which shows his unique view of love and profound thoughts on life. The whole poem expresses the impermanence and unpredictability of love and fate through the contrast of "seeing and not seeing". The poet expresses his longing and helplessness for his beloved in concise and affectionate language.

The poet uses seemingly simple words to convey a profound emotional conflict - wandering between love and not love, meeting and missing, with both persistence in love and acceptance of fate.

In the poem, "see" symbolizes the encounter in reality, while "not see" represents the unspeakable regret and longing in one's heart. The poet uses this contradictory way to show his deep love and helplessness towards fate, while also making people ponder the love and loss in life, bringing emotional resonance and philosophical enlightenment to readers.
